Happy Halloween!

Halloween may just be my favorite holiday. It’s a great time to get my friends together and watch all my favorite horror films. I also love seeing how creative people can be with their costumes. So many costumes are inspired by unforgettable characters in films. It’s amazing to see how much the film industry has impacted this holiday, and I hope one day to have created a character so memorable that someone will want to be that person for a day.

My treat to you this Halloween is a music video I recently completed for one of my favorite bands, SNMNMNM. Enjoy!

I just discovered that my alma mater wrote a post about me on the director’s blog! One of the folks at the school interviewed me over the phone right before I left for California in July, but when I didn’t hear any follow up from the school I thought they had just decided I was too boring to write about. It’s an honor to be recognized by a school that fostered my creativity and taught me so much.

What’s cooking and SPARKcon

Last week was a lot of fun! I met with the very funny and food challenged Rachael Oehring about her new and upcoming food TV series. While I don’t want to divulge too much info this early in the planning, I will say that it is sure to make your stomach jealous. More details to come.

I also was able to get a short film submitted to SPARKcon just under deadline, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it’s accepted to filmSPARK in September.

This week I’ll be busy editing the Moshing With Melvin documentary. I have a little over 7 weeks to get it submitted to Full Frame before I would have to pay a late fee, so the sooner it’s finished, the better. I’ll also be meeting with Seamus Kenney and Rachael Oehring to discuss All Hail the Comet. I can’t wait! It should be an exciting and busy week!

PLANS in L.A.

I’ve been in Los Angeles for the past couple weeks working on Plans, a film written by Jason Phillips and Jeremy Hogan. Jason is directing this film, and Jeremy is Producing and will be editing it. When I first read the script, I squirmed in my seat and at a few points even verbally yelled at some of the characters. The story kept me guessing until the very end.

For a while now I’ve wanted to take the plunge and start Directing films and television, but my experience has been mostly working with skeleton crews on videos specifically for the web. When Jeremy mentioned going to L.A. and helping out, I pretty much couldn’t contain my excitement. This was my opportunity to help a friend and experience the making of a film.

Since arriving here, I’ve been helping Jason and Jeremy by filling any open spot I can. It’s a small budget film and they seem happy to have the help. I’m excited to see a story of this magnitude come to life and glad to assist any way I can.

It’s been a blessing to work with such an amazing cast and crew. Today I saw some of the raw footage captured over the last few days and I literally had goosebumps. It is that good. I am certain this movie is going to be great.

The COMET is coming

Wow. I have been so busy lately that I haven’t even been able to check in and tell you what I’ve been working on!

My brother-in-law, Seamus Kenney, has been busy writing an original opera. The music is amazing, and I’m happy to say that I’ll be Directing his opera, All Hail The Comet, in the Fall of 2010.

We’re having a preview of the opera next Saturday, showcasing 6 songs. The funds raised at the preview will go towards this very ambitious project. I hope you can make it. Check out our website www.AllHailTheComet.com for more info!

Well, I have been so busy that I just haven’t had time to update this blog! But you don’t want to hear about that, you want to know about all the exciting things I’ve been working on, right?

Currently I’m adapting one of my favorite podcasts to be made into a musical. I am working with two of my favorite musicians, Matt Kenney and Seamus Kenney of SNMNMNM. And no, it doesn’t matter that I’m married to one of the Kenney brothers (Matt, just in case you didn’t know), they are excited about this project and would work on it anyway. I won’t say which podcast just yet, you’ll just have to sit tight and wait. Though, to give you an idea, here’s a song SNMNMNM recorded a while ago that sparked my thought process for this project: Zombie Girlfriend

On another note, I’ve been working with the amazingly talented Jeremy Hogan on a super awesome / super secret screenplay. More details to come.

I have also been asked to create two videos for Matt Vooris Music Camps (Matt Vooris who is also the drummer of SNMNMNM) which takes place in June and July. If you know someone between the ages of 7 & 17, sign them up!

It’s true! Today I realized that I was quoted in a Newsday article. The article talks about the relatively new phenomenon of book trailers and they quoted a blog I wrote for Lulu entitled How to create the BEST book trailer, EVER. (seriously.)
